Matt's Aunt and Uncle have a family house two and a half hours south of Sydney in a small town called Vincentia. This past weekend Matt, his brother, his brother's girlfriend and I paid a visit. The house was large and there were plenty of beds, which was nice because I knew my time sleeping on sturdy and supportable mattresses were coming to an end.

We spent Saturday evening on the porch and on the beach where, to my surprise, we found bioluminescent life in the sand--much like the life in Puerto Rico's Bioluminescent Bay on the island of Vieques, but on a much smaller scale. After a long conversation I stepped on a piece of seaweed and sparks of greenish teal we all over the sand. We exhausted this process that night and the following when we met up my friends Sean and Jef from Long Island (friends from SUNY New Paltz) and their friend Dan, who was catching a ride to Sydney.

Sunday during the day, before meeting up with my friends, we played Cricket on the beach and in the evening Matt and I went to Greenpatch, the National Park about 15k down the street. Cave beach was the most huge beach with so much to see. After hiking we climbed the rocks around the coast to find another huge cliff, which we climbed.
After making it to the top we hiked off the beaten trail through burnt bush and ashy sand. This is where I saw my first Kangaroo, but just its head as we surprised it and it leaped off before I knew what I saw! The hike couldn't have gotten better, but it did--the view from above was entire and the picture below should communicate that..

I did actuallysee some wallabies (much like roos), and a real kangaroo and it's baby feeding in a small patch a field near the parking lot. They are massive (at least the roo). The wallabies are much smaller but lightning fast!

Matt and I drove back to meet Sean and Jef and Dan and we spent the night catching up and on the beach. The next day we drove back to Greenpatch, explored another large beach and the first all white sand beach I've stepped on in Australia. In the book I'm reading by Bill Bryson he speaks of Australian Flies, which are relentlessly annoying and more concerned about landing and staying on you than they are with their own lives--well, I must agree that these were the most frustrating things and we found them on a spectacular beach. We acclimated to them quite quickly and dealt with their nuisance as we enjoyed the sights.

We left that evening after cleaning the house and making the beds. Our destination was Sydney for another day.

On the way back we stopped through Kangaroo Valley to scope this amazing view. Just breathtaking.

We stayed at Matt's and the next evening Sean, Jef and Dan hung out in the Harbor--it was Jef's first time in Sydney. I watched a game of Cricket at Matt's brother's apartment in the City and met up with them in the evening for a night of good times.

The road trip would start the next day..
